It’s amazing how smells can be so evocative. Catching a whiff of a roast in the oven, or a certain aftershave can transport you right back to Sunday dinners with family, or a love long lost. Some are comforting like the former, and some not so (perhaps the latter?)! The old-world scents of Oil of Olay (or Ulay as it was back then, in the pink bottle) and Max Factor Crème Puff teleport me back to my nan’s house as she “put on her face” in the mornings.
Needless to say, I’m rather olfactorily biased and I just ADORE a product with a divine scent. While my head can totally appreciate a product with a non-descript scent that works wonders, my heart is won by the fragrance. Since I post from my head far too much, this post is devoted to those gorgeous smellies which have a place in my heart. Read on »
“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose/ By any other name would smell as sweet.”
Hrmm, I wonder why I was drawn to this product, despite owning many different types and brands of black eyeliner. Egotistical as I am, I just couldn’t help picking up Soap and Glory Supercat Liquid Black Eyeliner Pen on a recent trip to Boots, hoping that it would turn me into a more super version of myself!
Soap and Glory describe it thus: Featuring our unique INKJET™ colour release & Gloss–Fix™ finish to give a rich and intense colour. The foolproof marker tip creates two looks – Fine point for a natural look or thick edge adds a dramatic flash!
I’ve been stalking the Soap and Glory stand in Boots for The Fab Pore Hot Cloth Cleanser, a pretender to the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish throne. I’ve been thwarted in every attempt to procure a tube by an empty spot where the stock should be. Apparently this is one popular cleanser. After months of futile hunting, last weekend my sweaty palms grabbed the last tube on the stand (VICTORY), so let’s see how the two match up. Ding ding ding FIGHT! Read on »
Ladies, how strange does it feel to be writing the date as 2012? I keep writing 2011 by mistake and having to scribble over it. My head is still firmly in last year, and stubborn mare that I am I feel like digging my heels in! So to keep up the denial for another few days, I’m looking back on the past year, bringing you our very favourite beauty buys of 2011. First up is skincare, bath and body.
We do love our skincare in Dolly Rouge land, and it doesn’t come much better than NeoStrata. We adore their scientific credentials, and canny use of chemical exfoliants in different strengths for different skintypes. Check out Rachelle’s reviews of their 20 AHA and 4 PHA cleansers. Read on »
I’ve been a bad little webmistress. I’ve been lax in checking our traffic referrals for the past couple of weeks. Otherwise I would have noticed that Soap and Glory had featured us on their website soapandglory.com as one of their “BLOGS WE LIKE” up until 15th December. Don’t believe me? Google Cache to the rescue… Read on »
So I was browsing Boots lately and came across the new Soap and Glory cosmetics stand (which has replaced the Prestige stand, meaning I can no longer buy my favourite Skin Loving Minerals foundation, boo!). While checking out the new offerings (very impressive and haul worthy) my eyes alighted upon their concealer duo, which seemed to have borrowed more than a trick or two from my Holy Grail Laura Mercier Undercover. Of course, like a good beauty blogger, I brought it home to investigate. Here’s Kick Ass Concealer in the shade light in all its (soap and) glory. Read on »
