Things that make you go mmm…. What are yours?


 It’s amazing how smells can be so evocative. Catching a whiff of a roast in the oven, or a certain aftershave can transport you right back to Sunday dinners with family, or a love long lost. Some are comforting like the former, and some not so (perhaps the latter?)! The old-world scents of Oil of Olay (or Ulay as it was back then, in the pink bottle) and Max Factor Crème Puff teleport me back to my nan’s house as she “put on her face” in the mornings.

Needless to say, I’m rather olfactorily biased and I just ADORE a product with a divine scent. While my head can totally appreciate a product with a non-descript scent that works wonders, my heart is won by the fragrance. Hrmm, I wonder why I was drawn to this product, despite owning many different types and brands of black eyeliner. Soap & Glory The Fab Pore vs Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish – FIGHT!

I’ve been stalking the Soap and Glory stand in Boots for The Fab Pore Hot Cloth Cleanser, a pretender to the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish throne. I’ve been thwarted in every attempt to procure a tube by an empty spot where the stock should be.  Apparently this is one popular cleanser.  After months of futile hunting, last weekend my sweaty palms grabbed the last tube on the stand (VICTORY), so let’s see how the two match up. Ding ding ding FIGHT!

Dolly Rouge’s Best of 2011 – Part 1: Skincare, Bath and Body

Ladies, how strange does it feel to be writing the date as 2012? I keep writing 2011 by mistake and having to scribble over it. My head is still firmly in last year, and stubborn mare that I am I feel like digging my heels in! So to keep up the denial for another few days, I’m looking back on the past year, bringing you our very favourite beauty buys of 2011. First up is skincare, bath and body.

Splurge or Steal? Soap and Glory Kick Ass Concealer vs Laura Mercier Undercover

So I was browsing Boots lately and came across the new Soap and Glory cosmetics stand (which has replaced the Prestige stand, meaning I can no longer buy my favourite Skin Loving Minerals foundation, boo!). While checking out the new offerings (very impressive and haul worthy) my eyes alighted upon their concealer duo, which seemed to have borrowed more than a trick or two from my Holy Grail Laura Mercier Undercover.
