Well do we have a treat for you today! In conjunction with the amazing Urban Decay, we’re delighted to offer a free foundation match of the new “Naked Skin” foundation at your local Urban Decay counter. Budget Bases from New York Colour

NYC Smooth Skin Mousse Foundation Swatch

I’ve said it before and at the risk of sounding like a Parrot I will say it again; the range of budget foundations on the market these days is pretty awesome. No matter your shade, budget or formulation preference there is something for everyone.

I was sent two such budget bases from trendy brand New York Colour.  Read on »

Brushing it off: Are foundation brushes really all that necessary?

Valentine’s has just passed, and I’m still feeling the love for a lot of things, just not my foundation brushes.  I currently own a No. 7 Foundation Brush (synthetic, smallish head, stiff), a Sigma F80 (synthetic, medium flat head, very dense) and a Louise Young LY34 Super Foundation Brush (large, dome shaped head, neither stiff nor floppy). Even with these wonderful tools at my disposal, I still prefer my fingers. [And shush you dirt birds, I'll double your entendre!] Read on »

Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation – Review

Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation

It has taken me literally weeks to write this review as I wasn’t sure if I loved or hated this foundation; and to be honest I’m still not really sure. I’ve since settled on a happy medium so thought I would share it with you: its not the best foundation I have ever used but by no means is it the worst. Read on »

Urban Decay De Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray – better than water?

Is Urban Decay De Slick Makeup Setting Spray better than water? At €233 per litre it would want to be...

My skin is definitely oily. For my makeup to last through the working day, I have to apply a primer, a longwear foundation, and a setting powder. Even still, usually by the time I get home, I have a shiny T-zone. So I certainly welcome anything which can help keep my makeup intact for 10 hours. Read on »

Dolly Rouge’s Best of 2011 – Part 2: Makeup, Nails and Gadgets!

Here we go with our second installment of Dolly Rouge’s 2011 favourites. If you missed it, check out part 1.

La Roche-Posay Teint Mineral is a powder compact. It can be used on its own with a sponge for medium-full coverage (oily or combo-skinned ladies), dusted with a powder brush to set foundation, or provide more coverage over sheer foundations (combo-normal skins). It covers redness/imperfections, doesn’t look powdery, doesn’t oxidise, doesn’t budge when faced with oil, doesn’t clog pores and has SPF 25. Consider that all boxes ticked for me! Read on »

Kat’s October Favourites. What were yours?

Dear bob, I can’t believe I’m writing this post already. It feels like I wrote my September favourites post last week, where I was lamenting the transition from summer to autumn. Well ladies, it’s winter now and the big C-word is just around the corner. Time has flown. *boggles*

Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation Review, Swatches and Photos

My preferred foundation up until recently was either Revlon Colorstay, Estee Lauder Double Wear, or Prestige Mineral Foundation. The common denominator? Coverage, and lots of it.

Lately though, these foundations aren’t looking as good on my skin. Creeping ever nearer to 30 (I’m 27 next month, eep!) my skin is (finally) becoming less oily and fine lines are becoming apparent. Colorstay, Doublewear and Prestige Mineral are settling into my pores and causing fine lines to look like crevices. Not a good look. Read on »
