It’s been Emotional… Brilliance! Retro FOTD with a twist thanks to Lush. Review, photos, swatches

No matter what Lush do, be it creating a fragrance, campaigning against animal testing, or gifting for Christmas, they sure as hell do it with feeling. Nothing less can be said of their recently launched makeup range, Emotional Brilliance, the concept for which is intriguing.

This range – consisting of lip colors, eyeliners and eyeshadows – is less about wearing make-up that’s in-season or on-trend and more about wearing colors that shape your mood. Emotional Brilliance is a way to wear color that’s designed for you. Choose colors, each with a corresponding word such as Confident, Take Control or Glamorous, and they will be significant to your needs at that time – wear those colors and you truly wear the word. It’s the power of suggestion – if one believes enough in something, there will likely be a change in behaviour.

The brand invites you to take their colour wheel for a spin to discover your own emotional brilliance which I did not too long ago in the Grafton Street branch. See what I came up with below!

Clarins have all you’ll need for your Odyssey from Day to Night this Winter!

I was very, very tempted to let the pics do the talking for this post, as they have a lot to say. Unfortunately so do I! Ladies may I present Clarins’ Christmas limited edition collection, Odyssey, consisting of a face palette and an eye quartet. Odyssey by name, odyssey by nature, this collection is designed to see you through your journey from office, to shopping, to bar, to party this silly season. More on that to come.

The packaging is luxe, gold and embossed (which we have come to expect of Clarins) and very, very gift-worthy. I can see many a mam/sister/friend swooning over it and displaying it proudly on their dressing table. Read on »

Soap and Glory Supercat Eyeliner: Does it a SuperKat make?

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose/ By any other name would smell as sweet.”

Hrmm, I wonder why I was drawn to this product, despite owning many different types and brands of black eyeliner. Egotistical as I am, I just couldn’t help picking up Soap and Glory Supercat Liquid Black Eyeliner Pen on a recent trip to Boots, hoping that it would turn me into a more super version of myself!

Soap and Glory describe it thus:
Featuring our unique INKJET™ colour release & Gloss–Fix™ finish to give a rich and intense colour. The foolproof marker tip creates two looks – Fine point for a natural look or thick edge adds a dramatic flash!

Dolly Rouge’s Best of 2011 – Part 2: Makeup, Nails and Gadgets!

Here we go with our second installment of Dolly Rouge’s 2011 favourites. If you missed it, check out part 1.

La Roche-Posay Teint Mineral is a powder compact. It can be used on its own with a sponge for medium-full coverage (oily or combo-skinned ladies), dusted with a powder brush to set foundation, or provide more coverage over sheer foundations (combo-normal skins). It covers redness/imperfections, doesn’t look powdery, doesn’t oxidise, doesn’t budge when faced with oil, doesn’t clog pores and has SPF 25. Consider that all boxes ticked for me! Read on »

Carmine November Box: First impressions, photos and swatches

Having seen on Beaut.ie recently that Carmine (following in Glossybox’s footsteps) are now shipping to Ireland, I was all over it. Less than a week after I placed my order and my Carmine box was sitting on my desk. Here’s what I got.

The style of the Carmine box really sets it apart from the rest, with its black, red and neon green. No muted pinks and dusky hues here! Read on »

Avon Supershock Eyeliners = My HG Eyeliners. Simples.

Avon Supershock Eyeliners - Bleedin deadly!

I first read about these eyeliners months ago on my favoritist beauty blog in the world, Beaut.ie! You can read their take on these babies here and here. The ladies at beaut.ie know their stuff so when I read their glowing review and the comparison quality wise to a Giorgio Armani pencil I knew I had to get my mitts on one. Read on »

Got kohl liners which are too hard to use? Rescue them!

We all have them, the pencils we bought hoping for smudgey, smokey kohls; which actually turned out to be hard, eyelid-tugging and completely unusable. Mine are below, and until recently they have been languishing in a drawer, completely unloved.

Well, here’s how you can rescue them from the makeup graveyard! I can’t take credit for this tip, as I saw it on Gossmakeupartist‘s YouTube channel. But it was too good not to share. Simply, use a lighter to soften the kohl. Read on »
