NOTD with a touch of Winter Sparkle. Featuring budget buys from Essence and ELF.

There’s something lovely about waking up to find the world sleeping under a frosting of glitter. That is until you realise the car is frozen solid and you should have left for work 10 minutes ago. Ah the joys of Winter in Ireland. There is one place however where a frosting of glitter is always welcome (though not always appropriate!) – on my nails.

Essence Launch New Frangrance Range – Budget but Beautiful

So whilst hotfooting it to Paul Simon in Dublin last week (stop sniggering, I feckin love Paul Simon, right?!)  I stopped by at the Essence blogger event which was held in aid of their new perfume line. Essence is one of both mine and Kat’s favourite beauty budget brands. I favor them over Rimmel any day and I am only raging I didn’t have this sort of choice when I was a teenager. Rimmel and Collection 2000 were all we had available back in the day; those and Pan Stick. Enough said really. Read on »

With these amazing Stay All Day Cream Eyeshadows, I’ve only got eyes for Essence!

I don’t really use cream eyeshadows much, I’m more of an Urban Decay Primer Potion + powder shadow kinda girl. Even so, when I did a spring clean of my stash recently I was horrified to find that my “just in case” stockpile of Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows had completely dried out. They were like rocks: unusable, unsalvageable. I was even more horrified when I remembered how much those babies had cost me: 20 quid each x 5 = one sad Kat! Essence “Love” Nails feat. Fateful Desire & Time for Romance

Essence have once again come up trumps in the nail polish department. Given that Love Day was this week I decided to do a simple and quick red manicure with a bit of a glitter top coat thrown on for good measure.  I used Fateful Desire (a lovely Ruby Red colour) as the base coat with a layer of the glitter-tastic Time for Romance as the top coat. NOTD Medieval Sewer Edition – Essence #68 High Spirits

This one is… interesting. You have to hand it to Essence, their range of shades is all inclusive. I was puzzling over whether or not to add #68 High Spirits to my basket in Dunnes one day, and as my other half came over to see what I was up to I asked him if he thought I should get it.

“Sure,” he said, “If you want to look like you dipped your fingers in a medieval sewer”.

The girl stacking shelves next to us burst out laughing. Read on »

Dolly Rouge’s Best of 2011 – Part 2: Makeup, Nails and Gadgets!

Here we go with our second installment of Dolly Rouge’s 2011 favourites. If you missed it, check out part 1.

La Roche-Posay Teint Mineral is a powder compact. It can be used on its own with a sponge for medium-full coverage (oily or combo-skinned ladies), dusted with a powder brush to set foundation, or provide more coverage over sheer foundations (combo-normal skins). It covers redness/imperfections, doesn’t look powdery, doesn’t oxidise, doesn’t budge when faced with oil, doesn’t clog pores and has SPF 25. Consider that all boxes ticked for me! Read on »
