I thought this post was rather timely given the week that’s in it, and the fact that the BITTER cold is sure to be nipping at everyone’s noses. Like seriously, when’s the last Paddy’s Day when we had to worry about snow? And we thought rain was bad enough! But I digress… I myself am unfortunately very prone to the “Irish” affliction, that is the glowing nose. Rudolf’s got nothing on me. Alcoholic or not, most of us will be lucky to escape the cold snap with our skintone intact. Add acne to the mix and a milk-bottle Irish complexion turns rather more sour. Thankfully over the years I have perfected my redness covering techniques, so without further ado let me introduce my arsenal. Read on »
I am SO OVER Winter. I don’t care that it was snowing last week and it’s dark before 5pm, I’m sitting here in a little dress and ballet flats. Law of attraction and all that. I’m ready for a breath of fresh air to shake off the winter cobwebs. I’ve thrown my heavy foundation into the makeup graveyard drawer of doom, and I’m embracing the cream – cream shadows, cream blushes and BB creams! Here’s a Valentines’ day-date inspired look featuring three of my favourite products for a radiant complexion and bright eyes: La Roche-Posay Hydreane BB Creme, Respectissime Ultra Doux Mascara and NYC Blushable Creme Stick in Big Apple Blush. It’s not often that I’ll post a press release verbatim but when I saw this I knew it was too good not to! Want some Hollywood glamour to brighten up a dull January? Read on to find out how to recreate red carpet looks the gorgeous L’Oreal spokeswomen sported at the Golden Globes 2013.
Ladies, I admit it, I have the attention span of a gnat. Is it any wonder when we live in this information age with phones, sms, email, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Foursquare, never mind just plain ol’ websites and forums. Not two minutes goes by between notifications on my phone, tablet or computer and my focus is constantly darting about. It’s hard enough for me to concentrate enough on actually executing a manicure with precision (not touching the cuticles is like the grown woman’s version of not colouring outside the lines…) and I have to wait for it to dry too?! You could give me all the speed dry topcoat in China and I’d still manage to smudge it somehow. It doesn’t help that I like to paint my nails in the wee hours, in the dark, just before bed. That’s how I roll. The day Ciate release a “Duvet Imprint Effect” manicure I’ll be laughing. Read on »
The folks over at Hession Hairdressing have put together some handy hints on how to achieve Giuliana Rancic’s new and improved hairstyle so I said I would share it with you lot today. My guilty pleasure is watching reality tv shows and I absolutely love Giuliana and Bill’s show! I can’t wait for the new series to start where we will finally get to see the arrival of their new baby! EEEEEEEEK!
In hair news Giuliana’s finally ditched the lighter tones and gone for an all over darker tint and I am liking it a lot! We asked Paul Hession of Hession Hairdressing Drumcondra and Clontarf how to recreate this red carpet look for the new season and new you! Read on »
I am super super pale and having sworn off fake tans for a long-time I decided this winter to perk myself up by making a return to it. I have been having lots of fun truth be told trying out all different makes and I was delighted when I recently had the chance to try the new 100% Irish Decadence spray tan.
Here is what the folks behind the tan have to say, and ensure to read on for my full review: Read on »
We’re not shy about getting into the spirit of things around these parts (I not once, but twice, had the honour of being the only one who turned up in costume to a work fancy dress competition in two different jobs. I don’t get why people take themselves so seriously, have some fun!). So in honour of Team Ireland‘s efforts in the London 2012 Olympics I’m sporting
a French an Irish manicure! You can also adapt this to suit your tricolour of choice – Italy, Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands I’m looking at you! Read on »
As someone who just can’t leave well enough alone, and loves what a “bit of a change” can do for her self image, I’ve been colouring my hair since I was 16. I’ve gone from mahogany, to blonde streaks, to violet, to henna-orange, to blue-black and every shade of brunette (my natural colour) inbetween. Mostly I’ve done my colour myself at home and luckily I’ve never had any disastrous results (unlike poor Rachelle!). That doesn’t mean I enjoy the faff involved though.
The drippy formula of home-dyes can be a nightmare for the cack-handed like me; it’s so very easy to ruin everything in the vicinity with permanent dye splatters. And even if you’re tidy about it, if you live with a neat freak they will still find miniscule dots of dye everywhere and give you hell (thanks mam, love you!). So when foam home colours were released, you can imagine I was all over them. John Frieda was the first foam colour I tried when it was launched in Boots last year, and it spawned a whole new world of mousse colours from the usual suspects. Was it the answer to my diy-dye prayers?
Much to my absolute shame as a beauty blogger it is only lately that I have discovered online makeup and hair tutorials. Not only have I discovered them but I’ve actually followed some of the tutorials and have been really amazed at how easy it is to re-create some amazing looks at home. The reason for this post is as I’m fairly new I’d love some of you guys to recommend your favorites to me! Who do you love or or make a beeline for online? Or who should I avoid at all costs?
