Dry Skin Creams for Pregnancy with La Roche Posay & Palmers!

la roche posay lipikar ap palmers cocoa stretch mark cream

I am five months into my pregnancy now and I can tell you that those five months have certainly taken their toll on my skin! The thoughts of stretch-marks doesn’t  bother me to be honest; they are just little reminders of how awesome a womans body can be. My beef is with the dry, itchy flakey skin that appeared out of nowhere along with the nice case of bacne thrown in for good measure.Every part of me itched and I had huge boils on my already itchy, scaly back. I was starting to feel thoroughly miserable until two creams came to my rescue……. Read on »

Pumping it up with some Luxurious Volume thanks to John Frieda!

Anyone else feeling a bit flat after “the Christmas”? Yeah me too. But it’s time to squeeze your feets into the party shoes once more. I gotta feeling (woo hoo)…. Tonight we’re gonna party like it’s yo’ birthday (or 1999, depending which generation yer from). No matter how dehydrated and deflated yer feeling, let’s give 2012 a good ol’ sending off.

Speaking of deflated, that’s how my hair is pretty much ALL THE TIME. Seriously. Flat as a pancake. Take a look at our “About Us” pic over in the right sidebar to see what I mean. Velcro rollers, sleep in rollers, heated rollers, BaByliss Big Hair… you name it, I’ve tried it. Eventually my hair always falls flat. Woe. First world problems eh?

That is, until now. Let me introduce you to the John Frieda Luxurious Volume hair styling range, of which I’ve tested the thickening shampoo, conditioner and hairspray.  Read on »

NOTD with a touch of Winter Sparkle. Featuring budget buys from Essence and ELF.

There’s something lovely about waking up to find the world sleeping under a frosting of glitter. That is until you realise the car is frozen solid and you should have left for work 10 minutes ago. Ah the joys of Winter in Ireland. There is one place however where a frosting of glitter is always welcome (though not always appropriate!) – on my nails.

Aussie Hair Care: Rediscovering products from my teenage years

A couple of months back I was on the lookout for some supermarket haircare; I’d dyed my hair a more natural colour and figured a return to supermarket shampoos etc was now more feasible. I was up in Dublin that particular week so I nipped into Boots and discovered they had a three for two on Aussie haircare.

Aussie is a brand I haven’t touched since my teens; not because of the quality but to be honest just because I turned into a haircare snob and was happy to part with silly money for shampoos and conditioners during my No Mortgage days (oh how I remember/long for those days!). So, now that I have a firmer grip on reality I have pared back on some of my many “necessities”.

Long story short I picked up some Aussie bits that day and was excited to try them again. It had literally been ten years since I last used ‘em! One product that jumped out at me was the Luscious Long shampoo. Those that know me know that I have been painstakingly growing my hair for the past two years and its finally got some decent length in it! Yay! (I included photos below for ya’ll to have a look). With these amazing Stay All Day Cream Eyeshadows, I’ve only got eyes for Essence!

I don’t really use cream eyeshadows much, I’m more of an Urban Decay Primer Potion + powder shadow kinda girl. Even so, when I did a spring clean of my stash recently I was horrified to find that my “just in case” stockpile of Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows had completely dried out. They were like rocks: unusable, unsalvageable. I was even more horrified when I remembered how much those babies had cost me: 20 quid each x 5 = one sad Kat! In the bin they went, and I resolved to that I would no longer buy stuff that I wouldn’t use, especially not expensive stuff that doesn’t keep. Read on »

L’Oreal Hair Expertise: EverPure, EverSleek & EverStrong. Forever in my bathroom!

L'Oreal Hair Expertise EverPure EverStrong & EverSleek

The relatively new Hair Expertise range from L’Oreal has been sitting in my bathroom quite a while now, so I’d like to take this opportunity to apologise to these gorgeous, shiny bottles of awesomeness!

When they first arrived I saw the “No Sulphates” tag and immediately became terrified. Sure haven’t I only been lashing on sulphates in all different shapes and forms for years? Isn’t that what’s been keeping my bushy, knotty and frizzy hair somewhat clean? Read on »

Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector in Medium for Oily/Combo Skin

I was delighted when a tube of Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector Oil Free suitable for oily/combination skin (bit of a mouthful, eh?!) popped in my letterbox a while back. I was a little less delighted when I realised I was sent the medium shade but no harm done, I simply lashed on a few layers of fake tan and I was ready to put it through its paces.

I did use and like this BB cream but as my skin is quite dry I decided to give it to Henna, my little skin ‘n’blister to give it a real rigorous testing! It was only fair. (On a side-note this cream didn’t dry my already dry skin out, so kudos to Garnier for that). Henna rose to the challenge and was delighted with how this cream performed.

She used it daily and it did not cause breakouts which is SUPER IMPORTANT for most teenage girls. Coverage was excellent; it concealed spots and dark patches whilst not causing drying or flaking. It was easy to apply (she used her fingers despite my repeated attempts at getting her to use brushes) and provided just the right amount of coverage without looking cakey or too noticeable. Read on »
