NOTD with a touch of Winter Sparkle. Featuring budget buys from Essence and ELF.

There’s something lovely about waking up to find the world sleeping under a frosting of glitter. That is until you realise the car is frozen solid and you should have left for work 10 minutes ago. Ah the joys of Winter in Ireland. There is one place however where a frosting of glitter is always welcome (though not always appropriate!) – on my nails.

Cymex Cream – A well kept secret

I am forever picking up bits and pieces here and there and then totally forgetting to post about them. Yesterday on the twitter machine LikeMamUsedToBake put out a request for beauty bloggers to help her find something for her dry, flaky lips. Her request instantly reminded me of two things that could help: 1) Bepanthen, which I did a post on here and 2) Cymex, a little miracle worker in a tube that I had forget to tell you all about!  Read on »

Inglot have lots to celebrate! And special deals this Saturday only!

INGLOT Limerick Blanchardstown

We received an exiting release this morning and want to take this opportunity to say, Happy Birthday to Inglot Blanchardstown & Limerick! We do love our Inglot around these parts, since they provide premium quality for reasonable prices. If only there were one in Carlow, myself and Rach alone would keep it in business!

INGLOT’s fourth and fifth stores in Ireland, Blanchardstown Shopping Centre and Crescent Shopping Centre Limerick will celebrate one year in business this Saturday, 20th October. As a result, they are celebrating with lots of special offers for their customers…Why not drop in and wish the girls a happy birthday, with bargains galore on offer, it’ll feel like your birthday!

The whole, yes I said WHOLE, range will be 10% off on Saturday! *hyperventilates* And if that weren’t enough…

Their nail polishes are 3 for 2 on the day, and are four free! That means they’re free from all the baddies: toluene, formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and camphor. Do you need another excuse?

There’s also a whopping 50% off their freedom round eyeshadow palettes! I’ve heard rumours that these guys are being discontinued, so stock up while you still can.

We also received news of their soon to be released Christmas range – Metallic Nail Enamels and Body Sparkles – promising shimmer and shine for all your Crimbo shenanigans!
Do you love a bit of Inglot as much as we do? Any recommendations for what to pick up on Saturday? Let us know!

Avon ANEW Clinical PRO Line Corrector Treatment with A-F33 – It works!

This is another review that has been a while in the making mainly due to the fact that I was CONVINCED the product would fail miserably and not live up to the hype surrounding it. I even said I would eat my hat if this worked (my winter hat by the way).

I’ve heard people raving about Avon’s Anew Clinical Pro Line Corrector Treatment with A-F33 but to be honest I didn’t believe all the fuss being made; that was until I put it to the test myself. Well that’s a little bit of a white lie really as my mam put it to the test for us!

Let’s get the facts and figures out of the way first shall we?! Avon partnered with powerhouse cosmeceutical brand Neostrata to develop the apparent “biggest innovation in skincare since the discovery of AHAs”.  Avon have announced that with this launch  they are bringing a powerful new anti-aging molecule to the market that even dermatologists do not have access to. The molecule A-F33 (Amino Fill 33) is a molecule that has been found in testing on skin cells to work in a way that other well known anti-aging ingredients such as glycolic acid, retinol and CoQ10 don’t.  Now, I am no scientist (Kat wears that hat) but I do know that I love a nice product full of glycolic acid or retinol so if A-F33 can do a better job then them well, just  consider me sold Avon lady!

Thankfully my mam doesn’t tend to read much online or in print about beauty products so she was blissfully unaware of the hullabaloo surrounding this product when I asked her to be our guinea pig. (Avon’s PR people had kindly sent us a some of the product to test as it was not yet available to order).

Mam was given the product in early August and I promptly forgot about it (well it was on my spreadsheet of products to follow up on) until Mam came to visit recently. She has smoker’s skin, and anyone that has ever smoked will know what I mean. Skin that feels dehydrated with fine lines from puffing on the ciggies can be tricky to care for. She is also a sun worshipper and I am constantly telling her to wear spf to no avail!

Long story short having not seen mam for a couple of weeks she arrived over and I immediately commented on her skin. It was plumped, brighter and fine lines did seem very much less obvious.  I actually could not believe it. Mam is RAVING about this serum, and it takes a lot for her to rave about a beauty product.

This product is coming to a catalogue near you soon (if not already, I’m trying to track down my local Avon lady as I type!) and will cost €39.00 at full price. I did hear a whisper it’s on offer at launch for €26 so if you can grab it at that price do. Either way myself, my mam and gran and all of the girls in the office will no doubt be getting orders in. This stuff works and I HAVE just eaten my hat!

Pixy Aloe Vera Rescue Gel – Every bathroom press needs one!

Pixy are fast becoming my go to brand for all my bath and body products. Not only do they smell amazing, contain only the best ingredients but they are also Irish owned and fabulous to deal with to boot! I met some of the team recently at the Professional Beauty event in the RDS; they’re great craic, hard-working and know their products inside out. If they keep it up I predict they will be giving Lush a run for their money. Pixy have the added bonus of selling online to their Irish clients, something I feel Lush are missing out on.

Today’s review centres on Pixy Aloe Vera Rescue Gel which the kind folks at Pixy sent me a few months ago to test. As the name conveys this product is a multi purpose Rescue Gel and in the interest of fairness I delayed reviewing same until I or someone I knew had skin that needed rescuing! I didn’t have to wait too long; myself and my other half escaped for a week in the sun in early September and this little tin came with us.

Come day three of the holidays I had a tiny amount of sunburn on my shoulders and himself had broken out in a prickly heat rash. The time had come to put the Rescue Gel through its paces! Read on »

Weleda Skin Food; a new favourite

I am a total sucker for cult beauty buys and products such as Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream, Clarins Flash Balm and Lancome Flash Bronzer have all graced my dresser in its hayday. I surprised myself by resisting Weleda Skin Food for years, that was until a recent trip to a local health food store where I spotted it. I tried a small bit in the shop and instantly fell in love with its tangy fragrance and I duly handed over 10.50 of my Euro bucks to take it home with me. Read on »

L’oreal Studio Matt & Messy

A quick review for anyone thinking of buying this! I picked it up in my local Shaws for the bargain-basement price €2.50! Not sure if that is the RRP or what but keep an eye out for it.

I don’t have much talent when it comes to doing my hair to be honest so any products that help to me to achieve a certain look always come in handy. I had previously tried the Bumble & Bumble Salt Spray which cost me around €12.00 and I really didn’t love it. It made my hair too beachy in that it was a total pain in the arse to brush or wash out after using the product! Exactly as if I had spent a day splashing in the waves! Read on »
