NOTD with a touch of Winter Sparkle. Featuring budget buys from Essence and ELF.

There’s something lovely about waking up to find the world sleeping under a frosting of glitter. That is until you realise the car is frozen solid and you should have left for work 10 minutes ago. Ah the joys of Winter in Ireland. There is one place however where a frosting of glitter is always welcome (though not always appropriate!) – on my nails.

Twilight Beauty featuring Essence, Lush and imPRESS nails

Twihards everywhere are counting down the sleeps until the release of  the highly anticipated THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 2  movie which is set to hit screens on 16th November. In anticipation of the release I have put together a little guide to the best of Twilight beauty on the market! Enjoy x
First up in our Twilight Saga beauty special we have a very special release from Essence due to hit counters this November. They have joined forces with Summit Entertainment to launch a limited edition Breaking Dawn inspired make-up collection . Prices will start from a pocket money friendly €1.99 and this is a collection sure to fly off the shelves! My favourites include the Shimmer Powder (I love Essence Powders), the Gold Lipstick and a gorgeous Blood red lip gloss and the best part? I can buy all three for nearly a tenner! Bargain.

Next up is the aptly named Twilight Shower Gel from Lush, which I had the pleasure of trying recently. Its a lavender laden limited edition  Christmas release from Lush so make sure stock up before it disappears off the shelves again. I have to admit I am totally won over by it; it contains Lavender essential Oil, Tonka Absolute (gives it a Vanilla edge) and Ylang Ylang. I cant really describe it any better than Lush themselves:

The period between sundown and nightfall is often called the blue hour, because of its distinctive ambient light.   Our blue purple shower gel tries to capture this, with a twinkling of stars added too.

Finally Kiss have a treat for all nail art enthusiasts and Twilight fans alike;  imPress on Nails. They have launched some limited edition manicures just in time for Halloween but I could definitely see Bella from Twilight going for the Spider Web manicure. These press on manicure kits will set you back around the €8.00 mark and are available in Pennys and stockists nationwide. I love these nails because they can literally transform even the most raggedy of nails with minimum time and fuss! Result! XFactor judge du jour Nicole Scherzinger is also said to be a huge fan!

Essence Launch New Frangrance Range – Budget but Beautiful

So whilst hotfooting it to Paul Simon in Dublin last week (stop sniggering, I feckin love Paul Simon, right?!)  I stopped by at the Essence blogger event which was held in aid of their new perfume line. Essence is one of both mine and Kat’s favourite beauty budget brands. I favor them over Rimmel any day and I am only raging I didn’t have this sort of choice when I was a teenager. Rimmel and Collection 2000 were all we had available back in the day; those and Pan Stick. Enough said really. Read on »

With these amazing Stay All Day Cream Eyeshadows, I’ve only got eyes for Essence!

I don’t really use cream eyeshadows much, I’m more of an Urban Decay Primer Potion + powder shadow kinda girl. Even so, when I did a spring clean of my stash recently I was horrified to find that my “just in case” stockpile of Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows had completely dried out. They were like rocks: unusable, unsalvageable. I was even more horrified when I remembered how much those babies had cost me: 20 quid each x 5 = one sad Kat! In the bin they went, and I resolved to that I would no longer buy stuff that I wouldn’t use, especially not expensive stuff that doesn’t keep. Read on »

Zooey Deschanel Lemon Nail Art tutorial

When I saw these nails pop up on the gorgeous Zooey Deschanel‘s (of  tuxedo nail fame amongst other things ;) )  Twitter feed I fell in love instantly. I knew I would have to give it a stab at home myself as it looked fairly easy to pull off. I don’t have a steady hand and that, combined with very little patience, means I tend to stick to the easier to achieve nail looks. I reproduced this look as best I could but if you don’t have a yellow/lemon polish or a bow decoration at home don’t let that put you off; grab another colour, a white striper and get going. It’s super easy and a great way to give your nails the A-list look. Read on »
