Our eyes are bigger than our bank balances here at Dolly Rouge unfortunately. How often have we flicked through the fashion pages of a magazine, lusting over the fabulous ensembles, to have disappointment wash over us as we see the price tags. We’re big into savvy spending and getting the best bang for your buck here on the blog, so when I leafed through this month’s Prudence I was pleasantly surprised to find that Pru is not just another clone of your usual women’s mag (rag?).
Aaah these boots, how I love their wine velvet, sleek heel and buckled ways. Looking at the shape and quality of them I immediately labeled them as out of my league and went to turn the page. But then my eyes alighted upon the price. €35! What?! These shoes are not from a designer label, but from Dunnes Stores! I’ll be picking them up with my groceries this week.
The mag also features a budget dupe of a new lustworthy Mark by Mark Jacobs bag, and fab features on how to channel the latest trends without having to take out a second mortgage. Condsidering how disposable fashion has become, what’s the point in paying through the nose for a trend that will come and go in the blink of an eye? Though of course neither is there a point in false economy, so the mag also features some pricier key wardrobe pieces that will take you through the decades. Me likey.
Aside from fashion and beauty, there’s also features on books, homes, cooking and “real” women role models, which in my view are sorely missing from “young” women’s mags. Why should we have to sneak a read of our Mam’s Woman’s Weekly for these things eh? Fair play Prudence, you know your audience much better than some.
