When I saw these nails pop up on the gorgeous Zooey Deschanel‘s (of tuxedo nail fame amongst other things
) Twitter feed I fell in love instantly. I knew I would have to give it a stab at home myself as it looked fairly easy to pull off. I don’t have a steady hand and that, combined with very little patience, means I tend to stick to the easier to achieve nail looks. I reproduced this look as best I could but if you don’t have a yellow/lemon polish or a bow decoration at home don’t let that put you off; grab another colour, a white striper and get going. It’s super easy and a great way to give your nails the A-list look.
For my mani I used the following
- Ciate Underwear Base Coat
- Essence #95 Wanna Be Your Sunshine

- Essence White Nail Tip Painter
- Avon Nailwear Pro+ Starry Sky
- Bourjois 1 Second polish #18
- Sally Hansen Insta- Dry Top Coat
- Nail bows and dotting tool from eBay seller fashion.lady.club

- Kiss Brush On Nail Gel (I thought it was glue!)
- CND Solar Oil
Step 1: Prep your nails according to how you usually prep them. I like to file, buff and condition my nails as well as trim any snaggy skin from my cuticles and fingers. Apply your base coat of choice; I am currently using and loving Ciate Underwear Base Coat.
Step 2: Apply two coats of Essence #95 Wanna Be Your Sunshine
Step 3: Using the Essence White Nail Tip Painter you are going to stripe two of your nails; I did the baby nail and middle finger. Then dot your thumb nail using the white polish and your nail dotter. It’s handy to empty some of the polish onto some card or plastic and dip the dotter that way. (Thanks to CherrySue for that tip).
Step 4: On your index finger paint a coat of Avon’s Starry Sky, allow to dry, then follow with a topcoat of Bourjois #18 (a gorgeous glitter polish).
Step 5: On your ring finger apply a blob of nail glue (I used gel because I read gel as glue!) and press on your bow. Allow to dry, otherwise your bow will fall off within the hour (himself ended up finding one of mine in his spag.bol).
Step 6: Finish with your top coat of choice. I used Sally Hansen Insta- Dry
Et Voila!
