Bio Oil – A handy multi-tasking product, no more no less!

I had read mixed reports of Bio Oil for years on the internet and I must admit it was one of those products where curiosity never did get the better of me. I didn’t have anything in the way of major scars and was fortunate enough not to have any stretch marks. Anyway as fate would have it their PR rep sent me a bottle to try. The parcel arrived for me on my first day back in work after a small procedure I had done recently (a laparoscopy). What a strange coincidence right?!

Bio Oil

Anyway, a laparoscopy isn’t a major procedure but it does involve the docs making two small entry points – in my case that was just below my belly button and another one at the top of my bikini line – which meant I had two small wounds to put Bio Oil to the test. Convenient to say the least!

When recovering I set to work massaging the bio oil into one of the wounds twice daily and as a test I left the other wound untreated.  I did this for at least 8 weeks and I did notice that the wound that was treated healed quicker. Indeed I’m not left with any scarring on the treated wound  and I’m left with a tiny scar on the wound that was left untreated! Pretty impressive, but bear in mind these were small marks to begin with so I’m not sure you would get the same results when used on wounds larger in size. I also used it on some old acne scars; it didn’t fade the scars but did improve their appearance and makeup applied more smoothly to the scarred areas. I used it on the ends of my hair (where it worked nicely sealing split ends for a couple of hours) and on occasion a plopped a few drops in my bath (it had a nice moisturising effect.)

Bio Oil

Bio Oil is also supposed to be great for pregnant women to help prevent stretch marks, but I honestly believe that you will either get stretch marks or you won’t. No amount of potions or lotions will stop them forming. That said Bio Oil is great for massage so I reckon pregnant ladies would find it relaxing to rub this on their bump!

Even though I like this product I would recommend doing your own investigation. One of the ingredients is mineral oil; the effects of which have been debated to death online. I’ve no hang ups about mineral oils so was happy enough to use it, and use it I did without any noticed ill effects.

All in all this is a handy little multi-tasking product; if you are not expecting miracles then you will be pleasantly surprised! Pick yours up in supermarkets and pharmacies nationwide priced at €10.99.
