Zooey Deschanel Lemon Nail Art tutorial

When I saw these nails pop up on the gorgeous Zooey Deschanel‘s (of  tuxedo nail fame amongst other things ;) )  Twitter feed I fell in love instantly. I knew I would have to give it a stab at home myself as it looked fairly easy to pull off. I don’t have a steady hand and that, combined with very little patience, means I tend to stick to the easier to achieve nail looks. I reproduced this look as best I could but if you don’t have a yellow/lemon polish or a bow decoration at home don’t let that put you off; grab another colour, a white striper and get going. It’s super easy and a great way to give your nails the A-list look. Read on »

L’Oreal Hair Expertise: EverPure, EverSleek & EverStrong. Forever in my bathroom!

L'Oreal Hair Expertise EverPure EverStrong & EverSleek

The relatively new Hair Expertise range from L’Oreal has been sitting in my bathroom quite a while now, so I’d like to take this opportunity to apologise to these gorgeous, shiny bottles of awesomeness!

When they first arrived I saw the “No Sulphates” tag and immediately became terrified. Sure haven’t I only been lashing on sulphates in all different shapes and forms for years? Isn’t that what’s been keeping my bushy, knotty and frizzy hair somewhat clean? Read on »

Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector in Medium for Oily/Combo Skin

I was delighted when a tube of Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector Oil Free suitable for oily/combination skin (bit of a mouthful, eh?!) popped in my letterbox a while back. I was a little less delighted when I realised I was sent the medium shade but no harm done, I simply lashed on a few layers of fake tan and I was ready to put it through its paces.

I did use and like this BB cream but as my skin is quite dry I decided to give it to Henna, my little skin ‘n’blister to give it a real rigorous testing! It was only fair. (On a side-note this cream didn’t dry my already dry skin out, so kudos to Garnier for that). Henna rose to the challenge and was delighted with how this cream performed.

She used it daily and it did not cause breakouts which is SUPER IMPORTANT for most teenage girls. Coverage was excellent; it concealed spots and dark patches whilst not causing drying or flaking. It was easy to apply (she used her fingers despite my repeated attempts at getting her to use brushes) and provided just the right amount of coverage without looking cakey or too noticeable. Vichy Capital Soleil Gentle Milk for Children SPF50+

In a slight deviation from our usual target audience today I bring you some tips for keeping the kiddies safe in the sun. Might not be much use with the summer we’ve been having, but if you are heading off to the sun these tips I received recently from Vichy should come in handy.

First up it goes without saying that you really shouldn’t be using anything less than SPF50 for the kiddies, even in the Irish sun. There are sun-creams out there to suit every budget so you have no excuse not to keep your VIPs adequately protected! After all children’s skin is much more sensitive to UV rays than adult skin, even in the cloudy Irish weather the rays can still get through.

A new one on the market is Vichy Capital Soleil Gentle Milk SPF50+  which is specifically designed for children.  Free from parabens, colorants and fragrances, it is also formulated to be waterproof and not to sting eyes – a must with young kiddies as they are forever touching their faces. It contains a reinforced filter system made up of a combination of filters including Mexorul SX-XL at optimized dosages to reinforce protection and provide efficacy against longwave UVA. 100ml will set you back €18.50. All in all its a pretty decent product; my friend has been using it on her toddlers and likes it a lot.

Supermarket Sweep: Dove Pro Age = Crappiest Face Wash in the World

It’s rare that I  feel nothing but absolute hate for a product but Dove Pro Age has brought the bitch out in me. It’s 100% nasty!

I picked it up in desperation last week in the supermarket having run out of both my Neostrata Pha4 and my Liz Earle  washes on the same day. I didn’t have the cash to buy the Neostrata immediately and it’s not something I use everyday anyway. The Liz Earle I wasn’t able to get my hands on immediately either as I needed to wait for it to be delivered, so in a moment of madness I picked up the Pro Age which promised to clean my mush and leave it feeling full of  moisture ; neither of which it did!
