DIY Hairdressing: A sign of the times or a total No No?

So with the recession in full swing I’ve decided to revert to home colouring, something I swore off since my Linda from Gimme Gimme Gimme nightmare a few years ago.

My hair once looked like this; yours can too if you home-dye!

I learned some harsh lessons back then and finally realised that hair colorists train for a reason! So this time round I tread carefully and I dipped my toe back into the DIY hairdressing pool with a little semi-permanent number from Garnier. I was going for the balayage look and I pulled it off quite well, if I do say so myself!  Even the fading colour looks quite snazzy.
I was feeling so super smug about my latest home dye experience that when this article caught my eye I strongly considered it.  I started researching and putting the feelers out amongst friends and family. Everyone I spoke to thinks cutting my own hair can only end in tears…What’s your view? Take our poll and let me know in the comments if you’ve  done it before! Am I totally mad to consider giving myself a trim?

I’ve cut my fringe plenty of times but wouldn’t go near the lengths myself! I have tried home colour in the past, but if I’m honest, it looked manky.

@Sìle yeah loads of my friends cut their fringes but thats the one thing i would have the fear of in case I cut it too short. I am reckoning that i should be ok to trim the ends as my hair has grown a good bit. If it was shorter I dont think I would consider it. *Rach

I NEVER learn my lesson when it comes to chopping my own hair. I always think it’s a great idea to chop at my fringe. I end up looking ridiculous and going to the hair dresser anyway. sigh.

@twitter-405862784:disqus i’m staying clear of the front part for sure and going to concentrate on the ends for now. I’ll let you know how it goes (or doesn’t go!)

With this recession I’ve just stopped getting my hair done full stop!
The last time I got a cut and color was last summer! It’s just too expensive and I know I’d make a mess if I done it myself!
