Supermarket Sweep/Dupe Alert: L’Oreal Elvive Triple Resist Shampoo & Conditioner

L'Oreal Triple Resist

I don’t have loyalties with many things in my life and beauty products are no different. Whilst I do have a HG conditioner I tend to chop and change my hair products on a very frequent basis. It’s a luxury I didn’t have for a year or so as I had to repair my hair after a couple of years of bleaching. Now that my hair is back to a sort of normality I have been experimenting with supermarket brands alongside more luxury haircare.

This leads me to a newish product that I have been using and seeing good results with. It’s L’Oreal Elvive Triple Resist shampoo and conditioner (bought for under a tenner in my local Petitts). It claims to reinforce, nourish and strengthen fragile hair with a tendency to fall.

Now, my hair is not in dire straits but I gave this a go as I was curious to see how it compared to the pricier Redken Extreme range of products which I had used intermittently for near on a year.  The Redken Extreme shampoo will cost you around the €16-€18 mark which is a big difference compared to the L’Oreal offering but I am pleased to report that’s where the differences end. I found my hair to be quite “hard” after using both brand’s offerings and I know from experience that the hard feeling fades and is part of the formula to keep hair from breaking. Over time (say 1-2 months) I found with both sets of products that my hair was indeed much stronger and not so easily broken. These types of products are perfect for anyone with extremely distressed hair; and when I say distressed I mean hair dyed to within an inch of its life and then some. I had an awful home dye experience which very nearly rendered me bald headed so I had to learn the hard way to nurse my hair back to health!

Redken Extreme Family

All in all I reckon that if you hair is in dire straits and needs some TLC or timeout then I would be opting for the cheaper L’Oreal offering. It’s worth noting though that any of these products in my opinion would not be suited for everyday use. More of a once a week type shampoo and condition. They are quite heavy duty and can cause buildup on the scalp so really only opt for these types of products if the hair is genuinely damaged. They are not for anyone with colored hair that just wants to add a bit of protection; your hair should be snapping at every opportunity before breaking out these bad boys! I would also still invest in the Redken Extreme Anti-Snap treatment as its a wonder potion for extremely damaged hair.

Have you tried either brand’s offering? Let me know in the comments :
