When I got wind that Lidl where launching their own brand perfume during the summer I waited patiently for news of a launch date. By October my patience was wearing thin; I was like a child counting down sleeps until Santa came. I waited and waited and eventually got wind that the perfume was to hit stores on Dec. 5th. The perfume had in the meantime been selling like hot cakes in the UK since May! I could have got a bottle on Fleabay but that would have ruined the excitement altogether.
There are several reasons as to why I really really wanted to get my hands on a bottle: firstly, for a budget supermarket, Lidl make some really good quality beauty basics. I would go as far as to say I prefer them over any other supermarkets own brands (I’m looking at you Tescos with your burny, stingy cleanser for sensitive skin). Kat and I are both big fans of the Cien Eye Contour Cream. The other reason is that I had been reading rave reviews on the UK blogs where people were comparing the scent to that of Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle! In fact, two independent consumer panel tests carried out by the Perfumer’s Guild on the Lidl perfume versus the designer one revealed some pretty amazing results. In the first round 89% of women preferred the Lidl scent and in the second round a resounding 90% preferred the Lidl scent! By now I am sure you understand why, as a beauty product whore and an avid bargain hunter, I just had to have a bottle!

So, fast forward to a week and a half ago when I made my way excitedly to Lidl in Carlow on my lunch. I searched the store and came away with nothing all the while re-assuring myself that I would pick up a bottle immediately after work when I got to Athy. Except they had none either. Both stores had sold out early. I took to the interweb to moan and by some sort of Miracle on 34th Street type situation the lovely Lidl PR lady got in touch to say she had a spare bottle and it was en-route to me! Sing hosannas!
It arrived a day later and I am delighted to say it didn’t let me down!!! It came in a well packaged box and the bottle itself is made of clear glass. One spray and I was hooked. It smells fabulous! It has citrus and floral notes that are not too heavy and the Jasmine is definitely evident. I wore it into work the next day and several people asked me what it was. I wore it out last Saturday night and the taxi driver asked what scent it was!! No one believed me when I told them. The most unbelievable thing about the whole product is the price. This my friends costs a measly €3.49 for 50ml of product! I still cant get over it. This perfume smells way better than some of the expensive stuff on the market. Obviously it won’t have the same staying power but for the price sure you can afford to buy a bottle for the car, the handbag, the mam’s house, the office, the local coffee house, the pub etc etc etc.
