Technically this product is suitable for any hair in distress but I felt I had to include it as it came to my rescue when I had a particularly disastrous home dye situation.
A couple of years back I did the stupidest thing I’ve ever done in my entire life. I dyed my hair brown, by myself, at home. I looked completely ridiculous and after a month decided enough was enough and wanted to go back blonde. So I bought a random blonde home dye in the local supermarket and Mam set to work restoring my hair back to its former glory. Except, my hair wasn’t restored to its former glory; quite the opposite in fact.
When Mam insisted on giving my hair one more good wash to “get all the dye out” (after 3 washes) I knew something was up. When I looked in the mirror I actually nearly died. I looked like this: (minus the glasses)
It was the first time in my entire life that I actually felt frightened by how I looked. To make matters worse it was a Sunday, and I live in Athy.
At this stage I lost my shit alltogether. I knew there was no way I could leave the house let alone go to work the next day looking the way I did. I started ringing places only to be met with no answer. Then in a lightening bolt moment I knew someone on the blather over on beaut.ie would surely know what to do and of course I was right! Someone told me that Peter Marks was open in McDonagh Junction so I withdrew my gas money from the bill account and under the disguise of a Man United baseball cap (the Man.U part is important; I am a lifelong LFC Fanatic and it took a lot for me to wear that hat and by a lot I mean patches of red, fake looking hair and it being the only hat in the village)
Anyway long story short the hairdresser actually laughed right in my face when I got to her a couple of hours later. I couldn’t blame her; I’d have laughed too only I couldn’t speak through the heaving sobs. I had to sign a waiver that she drew up specially to promise that I wouldn’t sue her or Peter Mark if my hair actually fell out whilst she was trying to do some sort of a fix.In fairness, I’d have signed my soul away a la Bart Simpson if there was any chance she could do something for me.
Cut to three/four hours later and by some miracle the hairdresser had got my hair semi-normal looking. I had to have most of my hair cut to bob short length and I had several very patchy yellow parts but to me my hair looked a million dollars compared to what I had walked in with. Even the other hairdressers applauded their colleague on the magnificent work she did. I am convinced she left work that day only to go on and turn water into wine.
She did warn me I would need to invest in some good products so being the penny pincher that I am I went online that night and ordered the whole Extreme range online. I can’t rememver what site but I know FeelUnique.com stock the Redken at good prices. I do remember paying around the 16 Euros mark for the Redken Extreme Anti Snap treatment. It became my best buddy. Anywhere I went, this bottle of stuff came too.
Now, be under no illusion. This stuff can leave hair feeling hard. It doesn’t offer you shiny flowing locks. What it does offer however is amazing protection for extremely damaged hair. My hair snapped and broke in the hairdressers and I didnt want a repeat at home so I sprayed this in everytime I washed. It promised to help restore the lipid layer of protection, and it resurfaces the cuticle to help restore shine while amino acids and protein enter the cuticle for targeted structural repair. Together, IPN (Interlock Protein Network) and the Fortifying Complex deliver Redken Extreme’s advanced strengthening benefits for healthier, stronger hair.
It rebuilds surface protection, provides progressive conditioning and strengthens hair’s core. It is a brilliant product for bleached blondies who have serious breakage or damage issues. Even if you only use it once a week whilst you’re slobbing around the house I cannot recommend it enough. It did my blonde hair a whole lot of good and within a few months of using the range my hair had improved ten fold. I could once again brush and wash my hair without breaking it.
So moral of this post is: don’t ever attempt to go from dark to blonde hair at home and if you have bleached your hair to within an inch of its life this product should help you on your way to repairing the damage caused!
